Memorial Picture "...KIDD, CAPTAIN Owen A. "OAK"...Died on July 28, 2002. He was 73 years old and had suffered from Myelodysplastic Syndrome (a type of Leukemia) for over two years. CAPTAIN Kidd was the XO under CAPTAIN Harlin Purdy and was the first CO to fly the P-3A after the VP-50 transition. He served as Commodore Patrol Wing Three, NAS Brunswick, Maine. Other tours of duty included VP-23 and VP-40. There will be an interment at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA, September 16, 2002 at 13:00 hours. Both he and my Mother survived the attack. However, he once told me that after the attack, there were only 3 PBYs left. They were the ones out on patrol. Everything else was destroyed. I have been with VP-91 since then, starting as an AX2 in Work Center 210 working for AT1 "Sluggo" Scott Sutherland. We are reunited again, serving as the Comand Master Chiefs for VP-91 until July, 1998 when I will transfer to CRPWP / CPW-4 to assume the duties as the Wing Master Chief...I am working with ADC Mike Ward and AVCM Scott Sutherland here at the Navy's newest Naval Air Reserve Center (San Jose), planning to retire in the March/April '01 timeframe.
