ELLIOTT, Timon Libertyhound@cs.com "...I was stationed with FASRON-107 from 1957-58. My first duty station on entering the Navy. That was the old Navy we all talked about years later and wished that we could go back to. It was a period of my life that I shall always look back on and wish I could recapture. I learned so much from that period thanks to the men I served with and the leadership they displayed. I was for a short time in a VP squadron envolved in the invasion of Lebanon in 1958. Do you know what squadron that would be?..." [12JUN2002]

FINLEY, Hugh D. hughdfin@ncal.verio.com "...Dick Read was my old co-pilot in VP-11. I see that you have a FASRON collection and are missing FASRON-107 in NAS Keflavik, Iceland. I was in the squadron in 1956 and 1957. (one year unattached duty - a hardship tour) We had a UF-2 (Grumman Albatross) that later became the SA-16 when the P2V became the P2! Quite a plne but it didn't like Ice as it had a large hull area that carried no deicers. You don't seem to cover the Seaplne Tenders. I was in Salisbry Sound AV13 in the early 60's. Made two deploymenmts to WestPac. You might note that at least two CNO's were CO's of the "Sally" Adm Moorer who later became Chairman of the JCS and Adm Holloway who was my skipper..." [12JUN99]

[27NOV2003]

GRAY, AT1 Charles L. Retired charju@twcny.rr.com "...I served with FASRON-107 from 1958 thru 1959. I thought it was the "armpit of creation" What a difference! I traveled to Iceland last fall. It is beautiful. We were able to travel about the Island with our son, who is stationed there now. Met Iceland Family and toured with them. Beautiful in starkness. Recommend a return trip if you are able. I also served with VP-49 from 1963 - 1967 as an AT1. I joined the squadron shortly after their transition to the P-3 from the P5M. I retired from the Navy in 1974 and from Federal Civil Service in 1996. My wife, Judy, is also retired. We have two grown children and five grandchildren..." [27APR2003]

HALL, CWO3 Wilford C. Retired hallwc@navair.navy.mil "...I was attached to FASRON-101 in NAS Quonset Point, Rhode Island, in 1950 when the decision was made to form FASRON-107 and ship us to NAS Keflavik, Iceland. I spent 11 months and 26 days there and spent the time providing I level support for the VP's that came up there, VP-10, VP-8, and VP-26, seem to be the ones I can remember. VP-10 and VP-8 were flying P2's and I believe VP-26 was flying PB4Y2. It was a very interesting tour of duty. I remained on active duty until April 1980. I spent five cruises with that other Navy, including three off Vietnam (1967 1975) before retiring. I now work for NAVAIR out of NAS Lemoore, California providing support to the fleet, including VP-65 out of NAS Point Mugu, California and the VP community in Hawaii..." [14AUG2001]

KARKHECK, AT3 Herb herbflight@tampabay.rr.com "...I served with FASRON-107 (01/1959-01/1960). I served mostly in the AT shop, and often ran the test equipment "cage". My good friend, John Krieger, AT3 (1959), married the German Nurse he dated in Rekjavik, and unfortunately, both have passed away. (My German Nurse sent me a "dear John" after I was transferred to VP-5 in NAS Jacksonville, Florida). I would love to make contact my old buddy, Al Augiliera. I think he was from Brooklyn. He was in FASRON-107 at the same time. In fact he saved my life from a big Norwegian (I think), who was going to kill me on Christmas Day, 1959, because of my German background. Alcohol was a contributor to the event. Wishing the best to all my felllow Bropther and Sister Navy Vets..." [29AUG2016]

MARTZ, LT Ernie eroymartz@yahoo.com "...I served with FASRON-107 (1958-1959) as Assistant Personnel officer. Also did news, weather and sports on AFTRS from a quonset hut. (pix on page 34 of Brass Button Broadcasters, a light hearted record of entertainer involvement in the military). Our mascot navy goat shed some fur on SecNav Gates blue suit when he visited. He took it in good humor. I later flew the paciific barrier as a first navigator with F-28 with AEWBarRonPac (1962-1964) after accepting a voluntary recall during the Berlin Crisis. I did some announceing on the Midway AF radio station. Also performed as master of ceremonies for an all-hands party for the Navy's largest squadron at NAS Barbers Point, Hawaii. It was a thrill to meet and work with Bob Crosby and his Bobcats. It helped prepare me for a return to civilian life again to work as a TV weathercaster with freelance voiceovers and on-camera for a variety of commercial and public service clients, leading to some film work as a member of the Screen Actors Guild. and recording Talking Books for the blind. Also, most recently as a FEMA Reserve, Disaster Assistance Field Public Information Officer involved in recovery work..." [BIO Updated 02DEC2011 | 08MAY2009]
