History FASRON-10 HistoryHistory

Circa 1951

HistoryA BIT OF HISTORY: "...Fleet Aircraft Service Squadron Ten (FASRON 10) is one of these important, but sometimes unheralded, supporting units. Commissioned at Moffett in March 1951, just after the arrival of the station's first jet, FASRON Ten has kept pace with the carrier based squadrons as they received the newer high-performance aircraft. Early in 1958, FASRON Ten commenced operating two new jet engine test cells--one more facility to provide better and faster service to the fleet..." http://www.moffettfieldmuseum.org/history/postwar/fleet-units.html [17JAN2004]

HistoryA BIT OF HISTORY: "...Fleet Aircraft Service Squadron Ten - What is believed to be the first all-jet Fleet Aircraft Service Squadron in the Navy, was commissioned at NAS Moffett Field, California on 20 March 1951. FASRon Ten, now under the command of Commander Kenneth F. Lafferty, has quite a tough job, particularly in repairing fleet aircraft. As its name implies, FASRon Ten is a service and maintenance squadron and is an integral unit of the operating forces of the Pacific Fleet. It serves as a coordinating unit in the logistic support of fleet aircraft units under a Fleet Air Wing Commander, in this case, Fleet Air Alameda. Normally, it maintains and services its own assigned aircraft and pool aircraft. It does specialized maintenance, minor and emergency repairs, etc., which are beyond the capacity of the supported outfits. At the close of the Korean conflict, the squadron had approximately 500 men. Today it is operating with 200 men and their can-do motto still exists--"the difficult we do immediately; the impossible takes a few days."..." http://www.moffettfieldmuseum.org/history/postwar/fleet-units.html [URL Updated 17JAN2004 | 05OCT2001]
