Memorial Picture "...EBERSOL, Dr. Milton Farney...Dr. Milton Farney Ebersol, 86, Brookside Drive, Watertown, died at 2:22 a.m. Tuesday in the emergency room at Samaritan Medical Center. A Navy veteran of World War II, he enlisted Oct. 11, 1942, in New York City and received flight training at Colgate University, Hamilton, and in NAS Hutchinson, Kansas. In July 1944, as an Ensign, he was designated as a Naval Aviator at NAS Corpus Christi, Texas. He served with VPB-124, flying PB4Y-2B Privateers, stationed on Okinawa. He received an Air Medal for action in aerial flight in the western Pacific in 1945 and was discharged from active duty April 28, 1947, at NAS Pensacola, Florida, as a LT(jg). After the war, he taught navigation at NAS Pensacola, Florida, for a time and served in the naval reserve until his honorable discharge Aug. 22, 1960..." EBERLY, CAPTAIN William G. Retired weberly@nqi.net "...I never knew anything more about VPB-101 since I flew with them in 1946, while I was stationed at NAS Floyd Bennett Field, New York in 1945-46. I was a designated Naval Air Navigator and newly commissioned Ensign from the Air Navigator's School at Clinton, Oklahoma - formerly enlisted ARM, Air Gunner, CAC. At NAS Floyd Bennett Field, New York I was in the Training Department, and we were supposed to be instructing the Coast Guard pilots of the "B-17's" in Loran. I believe that this crew later flew to the Pacific and took part in "Operation Crossroads" the atomic bomb tests at Bikini island..." [11OCT99]
