Would like to hear from anyone from that era. I flew as a flight engineer on R-7s EC121Ks and AP2H aircraft . The AP2H was the only one I was in combat on. The only one left is in Tucson, Arizona...I served in Vietnam with a gunship squadron called VAH-21. We had P2Vs converted to AP2Hs. Only had three planes but we raised Hell with Charlie at night ! Not many people have heard of us. We took a lot of fire and took a lot of hits. We did a lot of damage to the enemy. We had 20mms in the tail, M-60s at both rear hatches, 40MM grenades that fired thru closed bomb bay doors, SU-11 pods under both wings, 500 lb and Napalmn bombs on both wings..." Dad passed on two years ago, but going through the site brought back many memories. I remember the crash on 11 May 1964 off NS Rota, Spain well. My mom's best friend was married to one of the crewmembers and it was my first real upclose and personal experience with death and loss. I'm now retired from the Army after 27 years and have the same feelings of comraderie with friends I served with, especially after combat duty.
