ReunionsREUNIONs: "...The VP-11 Tenth Reunion will be held August 21 through 22, 2009 in Reno, Nevada..." Contributed by Mike Brittingham captemb@gmail.com [12FEB2009]

As I look back on the past VP-11 Ninth Reunions, this is the TENTH Reunion of the PROUD PEGASUS! Why not have it in Reno, Nevada on August 21-23, 2009? Reno is the county seat of Washoe County, the population has increased to over 220,000, and it's the third largest city in the state. The state capital Carson City, Las Vegas and Lake Tahoe are close by but are shadowed by the Sierra Nevada on the western edge of the Great Basin which is 4,400 feet above sea level. Reno, "The Biggest Little City in the World", is famous for its casinos and is the birthplace of Harrah's Entertainment.

In 2009 the first P-3C Squadron will land in NAS Jacksonville, Florida its new homeport. NAS Brunswick, Maine is doomed! The other two active squadrons will touch down in 2010. The Navy will replace the P-3C with the P-8; don't count on it. The P-8A, a Boeing 737-800 replacement for the P-3C, is becoming increasingly less cost effective and affordable. Furthermore, the cost of the P-8A will cost approximately $416 million in 2004 dollars! The P-8s are to be based at NAS Whidbey Island, Washington and NAS Jacksonville, Florida with a detachment at MCBH Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. The Pacific and Atlantic will have 12 P-8, Fleet Replacement Squadron will have 18, and the detachment (Hawaiian) will have 6 aircraft (48 aircraft). Hopefully, 60 aircraft will be built. The new MPA will not have MAD which clears the need for low-altitude flight and giving the capability to the UCAU's. The P-8 is to ready in 2012 or 2013!

Eric Moorman has done a fanatic job putting this Reunion together. The hotel is the Sands Regency Hotel with the "price is right" and the details are in the attachment. The banquet is August 21, 2009 and the trip to NAS Fallon, Nevada are still being worked out on Saturday. The food at Virginia City are scrumptious!!

Now is the time for you to start saving money for the big trip out West, Partner!! The hotel is a big saver; look closely for the low cost airline. And fellow PATRON ELEVEN patrons, welcome aboard as we are a couple hundred miles from you and expect to see you!

ReunionsREUNIONs: "...The VP-11 Eighth Reunion will be held August 22 through 23, 2008..." Contributed by Mike Brittingham captemb@gmail.com [01FEB2008]

UPDATE This year's annual VP-11 reunion will be held on August 22-23rd at the Holiday Inn by the Bay in Portland, Maine. The hotel has agreed to have the reunion prices honored for two days before the reunion and three days after for a seven day window for those that wish to make a vacation out of there trip.

The Hotel provides transportation to and from the Airport, Bus station, and Train Depot.

We look forward to seeing a lot of folks there.

There are many things to see and do in the area of the Holiday Inn.

It is very close to the Old Port, which is one of the many attractions of Portland. There are a lot of shops and restaurants there.

Some of the historical sites in Portland are the Henry Wadsworth House; the mast of the USS Portland (CA 33), the waterfront is nearby with many sites and plenty of restaurants, there are ferry's to take you to the many islands in Casco Bay.

Also, the Coast Guard Base is in nearby South Portland with exchange services available.

If you would like to look into more services available at Holiday Inn by the Bay, you can log onto their site at http://www.innbythebay.com.

We will also be using a bus this year for the trip to Booth Bay Harbor for the Lobster Clambake on Cabbage Island, with a 2 hour stop at L. L. Bean for shopping. We have 44 seats for the boat ride out to Cabbage Island so you need to get your reservations in early as it will be first come, first served.

Commodore Payton, CPW-5 is our scheduled speaker at this time. There may be a change of command in the spring. His secretary will keep us posted.

We will have hats available for sale, both with the P2V and the P-3B on them and also the new patch that was on our guest pins last year.
