HistoryA BIT OF HISTORY: History ThumbnailCameraVP-1f History "...Pacific Airmail: 1935 Navy Planes flight to Midway? - Cover postmarked at Pearl Harbor Hawaii April 27, 1935, with May 22 Pearl Harbor receiver, and USS Pelican May 7 Hilo HI transit. Signed by a pilot from VP-1F Patrol Squadron, with ms "via Hilo" endorsement. An interesting and unusual cover. According to Dictionary of American Naval Aviation Squadrons, VP-1F and five other squadrons (VP-4F, VP-10F) participated in Fleet Problem XVI at Midway; the maneuvers started April 22,1935. It appears that this cover was carried with a VP-1F plane during the maneuvers - first to Hilo, then to French Shoals - Midway, and then back to Pearl Harbor. In other words, it is similar to AAMC TO-1234 covers that were carried by the other five squadrons (those departed Pearl Harbor May 9 and returned May 24)..." EBay http://www.ebay.com/ [17NOV2006]
