HistoryA BIT OF HISTORY: "...My great uncle was Donald Brooks. He was an AO and a aircrewman. He was a great man. I didnt get to see him much but I really enjoyed talking with a VP man from years ago. He spent most of his career at NAS Jacksonville, Florida. He flew in all maritime patrol planes from a P4M-1 Mercator, P2's, P-3 A, B, and C's. He retired a few months after his squadron recieved the P-3C. Donald Brooks died a few years ago. His memorial was at NAS Jacksonville, Florida Chapel and there was a get together at the NAS Jacksonville, Florida Sailing Club (which was one of his favorite places). I really wish I could have spent more times talking about ASW in the old days..." Contributed by COX, AW2 Kenneth kcox517@charter.net [16JUN2003]

HistoryA BIT OF HISTORY: "...143173 was delivered to VP-21 direct from the factory. Became LH-1. On the first flight in the squadron, the life raft emergency release was accidently pulled. The MK-12 life raft dutifully opened it's storage compartment located on the top of the port wing, at the root, and inflated itself! To say the least, there was a minute of sheer hell as the Neptune slow rolled to the port and disgorged the huge 12 man yellow life raft. There were no comments and no search for the raft was made...Bob." sudabay@aol.com

HistoryA BIT OF HISTORY: "...I think VP-21 was the "Black Jack" Sqd. (Brunswick, Maine) I will have to see what VP-9 was. I also think I delivered some of the new P2V-7 aircraft to VP-5..." Contributed by Jimmie D. Oyler hdqrs@worldnet.att.net
