The book is a 136 page, 9 X 12 inch hardbound publication and a history of VP-28 during the 1947/1952 era of the PB4Y-2 PRIVATEER.
The Book is a factual history of VP-28 between 1947 and 1953, as taken from the files of the Navy Department.
The Book has over 400 pictures of the Officers & Men of VP-28, plus the PB4Y-2 PRIVATEER the squadron flew before being replaced by the P2V Neptune in 1953.
There are 119 Biographies, with pictures, as written by the individuals themselves.
Also, there are 19 stories, submitted by squadron members, of memorable events that took place while in VP-28.
VP-28 was involved in weather recon, search & rescue, ASW and coastal patrol of the coast of China, thru the Straits of Formosa, (Taiwan), and Korea thru the sea of Japan. In the pre-Korean war, VP-28 operated from NAS Agana, Guam. During the Korean War, VP-28 operated out of Itami AFB, Itami, Japan, NAS Atsugi, Japan, ands K-1 Pusan, Korea. During the summer and fall of 1951 VP-28 was involved in "Operation Lamplighter" in conjunction with Marine Night Fighter Squadron VMF(n) 513, flying the F4U Corsair and the F7F Tigercat. VP-28 circled over enemy positions until sighting enemy troop movement, then called in the Marines. On the arrival of the Marine fighters, VP-28 would drop several flares, lighting up the area below like day light, and the marines would then strafe, bomb, and napalm them.
Eighty-three (83) members of VP-28 received the Air Medal for participating in twenty (20) or more missions over enemy territory, plus one (1) man received the DFC.

VP-28 received 5% of the gross sales prior to publication, and that went into our squadron Reunion till, and that is all that anyone from VP-28 receives from the sales of the book.
Copies of the book have been donated, by members of the squadron, to the National Museum of Naval Aviation, Lone Star Flight Museum in Glaveston, and the San Diego Air and Space Museum. Both National Museum of Naval Aviation and Lone Star Flight Museum have a PB4Y-2 in their museum.
