A BIT OF HISTORY: 22JUN78--"Reported to VP-5, NAS Jacksonville, Florida for duty. 19SEP78...Took off for Keflauik Iceland 2100. Relieving VP-56 Dragons. Stopped over in Brunswick, Maine for two hours to refuel. 22SEP78...Had first operational ASW flight. 2100 takeoff in rain and 30-40 knot winds. High sea state and bad weather on station precluded any low work. 06OCT78...Had an 0800 takeoff with an Admiral onboard for an inspection of operational procedures. An hour into the flight, #3 engine fire warning sounded. I got my actual first emergency. Turned out to be a hot air leak. 15DEC78...Change-of-Command squadron XO relieved CMDR Spearman.
