"...In the historical comments about VP-67 it is mentioned that the tail logo was changed to a "yellow chicken head". Actually the logo was a stylized golden hawk. From a distance it appeared to look like a chicken head and it's bright yellow color didn't help much, but it is actually a "swooping" hawk (extended talon included). The unofficial nickname of "Thunderchickens" and "Thunderchicken Airlines" are correct though, and I can only assume that they were a product of the unfortunate resemblence of a chicken's head from a distance.
