VP-721 History
Circa 1956
A BIT OF HISTORY: "...NAS Glenview, Illinois - August 1956. VP-721 was sent from NAS Glenview, Illinois to NAF Port Lyautey, Morocco during the 1956 Suez Canal crisis. We were there for approximately one month. After everything settled down, each plane was allowed a one day side trip to Gibraltar, which was only about a one hour flight. As those who have been there know, the airstrip has water at both ends and the main highway connecting Gibralter to mainland Spain, goes right across the center. When a plane is coming in or taking off, gates come down, same as at a railway crossing, to stop traffic. Real "interesting"..." Contributed by WIESER, Ray rwieser@comcast.net [30SEP2009]
