I WAS DISCHARGED WITH 31 YRS CONTINUOUS SERVICE IN 1970. I FLEW AS PLANE CAPT (FLIGHT ENGINEER) FOR ABOUT 16 OF THOSE YRS ON PBY'S, PBM'S, AND P2V'S. In November of that year our Squadron was combined with VP-832 and recalled to active duty RE: Cuban Crisis. Deployed to NAS Jacksonville, Florida and was redesignated VP-62 then deployed to NAS Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, rigging the Ships carrying the missles into that country. Discharged from active duty in August '62 and remained in active reserves. Was in XO LtCdr Simkin's crew as radio operator, Radar, ECM, and later as TACCO. Discharged from USNR in '70. MORSE, Fred FMorse@aol.com "...I went through operational at NAS Banana River, Florida in March 46 in PBM5's, then to VP-201 in San Juan until they returned to NAS Norfolk, Virginia, and in to VP-ML-5 as I recall. VP-741 in P-2V's at NAS Jacksonville, Florida during Korea with a 6 month tour on Malta. Was at NAS New York, New York in VP-832, VP-834 and VP-839, all P-2V's. Was called back during Cuba in VP-832 and retired in 1966 with 7 active and 16 reserve. Found time to fly 33 years for TWA, retiring in 1985..." [13MAY98]

Joined VP-834 March 1957 at NAS New York, New York. VP-834 later designated VP62R2. Squadron transferred to NAS JRB Willow Grove, Pennsylvania in 1970. I was reassigned to NAS Reserve Personnel office and retired 30 June 1978. Have flown in P2V-7's and SP2H several times and have fond memories. I remember Ed Conlan from VP-834 and keep in touch with Ken Burkhard, also of VP-834 and VP-66..." [07FEB2000]

STAFFORD, Chuck Shipmate Pix stafford11@cox.net "...Entered USN on active duty in 1952. Bootcamp in SD, CA. Went to AN "P" school in Millington, TN. Went to AT "A" school in Millington, TN. Served aboard the USS Midway for about 1 yr. Served aboard the USS Randolph for another yr. Transferred to shore duty at NAVANTRACOM (Naval Advanced Training Command Activity), Millington, TN. 1956 released from active duty and moved to Long Island, NY. Entered active reserve status with VP-834 as a PN2-later made PN1. One memorable "2 week cruise" event with friend Joe Ronda was at NAS Willow Grove, Pennsylvania in 1959 or 1960-Blast! Began college at Hofstra transferring to Long Island University (BS in 1962). Work after active duty concentrated in the HR (Personnel) area Progress to senior management position and "retired" from TRW in 1999. Still working (at 73) for my church (Director of Operations) http://www.thecrossingonline.com/. Have a master's degree in Organizational Management and teach at the university of phoenix.
