HistoryVT-15 HistoryHistory

Circa 1950

HistoryA BIT OF HISTORY: "...The with TBM is on the Essex while with VT-15. The one with the other pilots (he is on extreme left) is probably early 1950's also. With plane crew is with his gunner and radioman. The last photo to the right shows Robert Cosgrove folding the wings of his #93 Avenger after its last flight. Gunner Loyse Deen lies dead in the top turret. The plane could not be repaired so a decision was made to bury Deen at sea in the aircraft itself. It was the only such occurrence in U.S. Naval history..." Contributed by COSGROVE, CAPTAIN Robert D. Retired (Deceased) and forwarded by his son Mike Cosgrove mcosgrove@bjservices.com [11APR2005]
