COLE, William wcole5@sc.rr.com "...1952 -1955 After completion of An(P) and AD(A) school. My first permanent duty station was NAAS Kingsville, Texas. Assigned to Crash Fire. Went TAD to Alice Municipal Airport with 17 other men. Advanced to AD3. Our equipment included (1) FFN5 Crash Fire Truck. (1) Dodge Power Wagon Ambulance with Corpsman. (1) Flatbed Truck with a CB as Maintenance Man. Received orders to VR-21 NAS Barbers Point, Hawaii. Assigned to Flight Planning/Navigation Division of Operations Department. LCDR George informed me that I would be the Navigation Supervisor, and forced me through VR-21 Nav School..Having completed Nav School, I was assigned as VR-21 Navigation Supervisor/ Flight Planning Supervisor for all VR flights departing NAS Barbers Point, Hawaii. Also assigned flight crew for VR-21 flights from VR-21 EAST & West. My assignment on the manifest was as 2nd Mech., and also worked as 3rd Navigator in a training mode. Advanced to ADR2, received orders in July 1957 to ATi-301 NAAS Cabanniss Field. Cosed this base and moved to main base NAS Corpus Christi, Texas and squadron redesignated VT-30. Assisted in the training of young cadets such as John S. McCain III. 1960 received orders to VAW-11 NAS North Island, San Diego, California. The squadron currently had AD-4, AD-5Q, AD-5W, & E-1B Aircraft. I was assigned as Logs & Records Supervisor to train young sailors to maintain Aircaft History and Schedule Aircraft Maintenance. Mission Accomplished. 1967 Transferred to VA-97 NAS Lemoore. Assigned as Assistant Maintenance Chief/Maintenance Administrative Supervisor. Deployed in USS Constellation (CV64). Did 2 tours to the Tonkin Gulf. 1970 received orders to ComNavAirPac, NAS North Island, San Diego, CA as NMMMs Analyst..Shipmate AFCM Richard W. Mills was retiring. I was offered the position of Aircraft Power Plants Manager. 1974 Submitte my letter requesting retirement. Approved..." [04NOV2003]


EICHELBERGER, John Retired ichelbod@undata.com "...I joined the Navy in 1957. My first squadron was VW-4 Hurricane Hunters with WC121N's. We were homeported in NAS Jacksonville, Florida and then NS Roosevelt Roads, PR. In 63 I went to NAS Corpus Christi, Texas with VT-30 in A1H's & T28's.Decomm. VT-30 and went to VT-31 and S2F's. Then to NAS North Island, San Diego, California and VP-40 with P5M's. Deployed to NAF Cam Ranh Bay, Vietnam then turn in the last P5M. and Tx. to NAS Moffett Field, California and transitioned to P-3B's. Went to F/E school and deployed to NAF Cam Ranh Bay, Vietnam. Returned to NAS Moffett Field, California and transferred to VT-3 in NAS Whiting Field, Milton, Florida. Decommisioned the T28's and finished my tour in VT-6 and T34's. TX. to NAS Patuxent River, Maryland and back to P-3 F/E school and on to VP-26 in NAS Brunswick, Maine. Deployed to NAS Bermuda, NAS Sigonella, Sicily and back home to Retire to my home in Boonville Mo. Went to work for the Mo State Dept. of Corrections. I just retired from there as a Captain..." Following my retirement, went to work for Lockheed Burbank, later Palmdale CA. Retire again 2000. Then work contract work for various Aircraft Manufacturers. Now I finally retired and living in Krugerville TX, close to my Daughter and her family. I’ve been fortunate to have met and made some very good friends through out my life and I wish you all well. Volunteered for NAM, and orders to NAVSUPPACT (NSA) FASU/NSA DaNang, Republic of Vietnam from September 1965 to September 1966. September 1966 orders to USS Salamonie (AO-26) until June 1968. Then returned to Canada, where I joined Winnipeg Police Service and retired in 1998. Now reside in Lac Du Bonnet, Mb Canada..." [17APR2006]
