UPDATE "...My father served and eventually was lost at sea while serving with VP-205 August 6, 1943. His name is mispelled and should be C. R. Steely. I was borned on Huly 21, 1943. My sister and I recently went to Arlington National Cemetary where a complete burial service was held for my Dad. I have a friend, Jarrel Yates, who served in his squadron. He contacted me over 50 years after my fathers death. My sister and I are war orphans and new nothing of our father until Mr. Yates contacted me by phone from Decatur, Georgia. So after 57 years we were able to have closure at the National Cemetary in Arlington. I have no email so contact me (770)957-8117 for verification. My sister and I now have a lots of info. All these lost at sea are eligible for a full naval memorial service and headstone. By the way, the Memorial Service included a beautiful Flag, Taps, and full Honor Guards including a 21 gun salute...C. R. Steely, Jr. (770)957-8117..." [13NOV2000]

UPDATE "...I'm looking for Identification of PBM Squadron numbers based at the NAS Trinidad, British West Indies the months of June, July, and August 1943 for the purpose of obtaining records of an engagement of PBMs and a German submarine on August 5 and 6, 1943. My first cousin Harold E. Fredrickson, Service Serial Number: 6040936, Rank AOM1C who lost his life in an enemy action on August 6, 1943. Surviving kin is looking for war diary report or missing crew report regarding this engagement. We've been told that if we could establish the squadron number to which he was assigned that the information could be provided by "The National Personel Records Center" in St. Louis. We believe that this engagement resulted in the sinking of German Uboat, U-615 by Naval land based aircraft VP-130, VP-204, VP-205, and Army aircraft in the Carribean area dispatched from NAS Trinidad, British West Indies.
