Note VP-208 NoticeNote

Note NOTICE: "...I am the grandson of LT(jg) Joseph Earl Cook who was a pilot with VP-208 “Oboe”. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He enlisted November 1942 and at the age of 20 was commissioned as a naval aviator May 1944. He served in the Pacific before being honorably discharged as a lieutenant junior grade. He received the Navy Air Metal and the Distinguished Flying Cross for his actions during the first wave invasion of Okinawa in the spring of 1945. I am looking for anyone with pictures of him, pictures of his plan or just any information in general. He left a journal with great stories of his missions but I’m wanting to put together more to pass down to future generations. Thanks and God Bless America..." Note NOTICE: "...A friend of mine found the flight log book of LT John Calvin Swofford a PBM-3 pilot with both VP-202 and VP-208. LT Swofford enlisted in early 1942, first flight in an N3N (05/1942) and his last flight was in September 1945 in a ferry squadron. Mr. Swofford appears to have passed away August 1986. She would love to return the Logbook, etc. to LT Swofford's family. Anyone have any suggestions on locating his family?..." Contributed by Don Enlow fly4cc@aol.com [24OCT2012]
