The reunion is scheduled for the week of November 10-14, 2004 in San Jose, CA. I have reached an agreement with the Crowne Plaza, San Jose. I am required to give attendance numbers to the hotel by October 10th in order to get confirmed number of meals for Friday and Saturday nights. Please make every effort to confirm and pay fees by October 10th. There will be a $10.00/person late registration fee after October10th.

A room block is confirmed to accommodate the reunion for arrival on Wednesday, November 10, 2004 . Group rates will be honored 3 days before and 3 days after contracted arrival/departures dates, subject to availability. Crowne Plaza, San Jose is centrally located in downtown San Jose . There is no shuttle service between the airport and the hotel. The hotel reservations #'s 1-800-227-6963 , direct line 1-408-998-0400 or the internet www.crowneplaza.com. Please mention the "VP-50 Reunion Group Code "PAT" and be sure to tell them Crown Plaza "Downtown" to get the special daily room rate of $65.00.

Cut Off Date: October 22, 2004. After this date the Hotel may contract with other parties for the use of such rooms. Hotel will continue to accept reservations from Group attendees after that date at the GROUP room rate, subject to availability, in other words, get your reservations in early.

Cancellation Policy: Individual hotel reservations may be canceled up to 24 hours prior to arrival without penalty. Reunion Fees will not be refunded to individuals who cancel until all reunion debts are paid. Once the reunion account is balanced, fees will be refunded if there is enough money to do so.

Driving directions: See attached instructions.

The Reunion Cost: Single person will be $100.00 for the weekend and $180.00 for a couple. Checks will be made out to VP-50 Reunion Association and sent to PO Box 26884, Jacksonville, FL 32226-6884. The break down on the price is, $20.00 Association fees, $30.00/head Registration Fee, $20.00/head Friday night and $30.00/head Saturday night. The $20.00 Association Fee covers name tags, mailings, copy and printing expenses and rosters. The $20.00 Registration Fee covers hotel expenses, reunion shirts, glasses, door prizes, snacks, soft drinks, beer, wine and liquor for the hospitality room (Wednesday-Saturday), which will be the meeting room for registration and conversation. Hospitality room will be open at 6 pm on Wednesday, November 10, and it will remain open until Sunday Morning, November 14.

Friday night: will be a casual dress get-together for hors d'oeuvres, drinks and conversations at the at the Plaza Room. 8 pm Fran McVey will show pictures of his trip back to Vietnam.

Saturday night: will be a (coat/tie or dress shirt and slacks for men, suit or dress for women), banquet dinner at the Plaza Room. I have no confirmed guest speaker at this time. Could use some help or suggestions in finding a guest speaker.

Planned events: at this time: It has been suggested to have memorial service at the Moffett Field Chapel and a march to the memorial site for the two flight crews that crashed in 1991. There is also an Aviation Museum close to the Oakland airport, several commercial sea planes and the USS Hornet is docked at NS Alameda. If there is enough interest, (at least 15 people to get group rates) tours could be arranged. I am looking for a golf coordinator for those interested in playing golf, Moffett Course is still there. A plan for these events will be constructed once I get a feel for the number interested. If anyone has any other activities or things of interest let me know.

The roster has grown from 150 to 650 names in the last 24 months so I will be spending approximately $400.00 to pass this info on to those who do not have email.

DIRECTIONS TO THE CROWNE PLAZA SAN JOSE


  • From Highway 280 South (Cupertino, Los Altos, San Francisco) Take Highway 280 south towards San Jose. Take the Almaden/Vine Street exit and go to the end of the ramp. Go straight through the stop light and veer to San Carlos. The Crowne Plaza San Jose is located on the corner of San Carlos and Almaden. Turn right into the parking lot from Almaden.

  • From Highway 680 South to 280 North (Fremont, Pleasanton, Sacramento) Take Highway 680 South towards San Jose. Take the North Guadalupe Parkway exit off 280. Take the Santa Clara Street exit off of Guadalupe. At the bottom of the ramp, turn right onto Santa Clara. At the first light, turn right onto Almaden Boulevard. Continue on Almaden to San Carlos. At San Carlos, make a u-turn at the light and turn into the Crowne Plaza San Jose.

  • From Highway 101 South (Sunnyvale, Burlingame, San Francisco) Take Highway 101 South to San Jose. Take the Guadalupe Parkway exit off 101. Continue on Guadalupe Parkway until the Park Avenue/San Carlos Street exit. Take this exit, and at the bottom off ramp, turn onto Park Avenue. Continue on Park Avenue to Almaden Boulevard. Turn right onto Almaden. Take Almaden to San Carlos. Make a u-turn at San Carlos and turn right into the Crowne Plaza San Jose.

  • From Highway 101 North (San Jose, Morgan Hill, Gilroy, Southern California) Take Highway 101 North to San Jose. Take the Highway 280 North exit (to San Francisco). Take the North Guadalupe Parkway exit off 280. Take the Santa Clara Street exit off of the Guadalupe Parkway. At the bottom of the ramp, turn right onto Santa Clara. Turn right onto Almaden off Santa Clara, and turn right into the Crowne Plaza San Jose.

  • From Highway 17/880 North (Los Gatos, Santa Cruz, Watsonville) Take Highway 17/880 North to San Jose. Take the Highway 280 South exit, and follow directions above for Highway 280 South.

  • From Highway 880 South (Milpitas, Fremont, Oakland) Take Highway 880 South to San Jose. Take the Coleman Avenue exit and turn left onto Coleman Avenue. Stay on Coleman Ave. into downtown San Jose (approximately 3.5 miles), where Coleman becomes Market Street. Stay on Market until you come to San Carlos Street. Turn right on San Carlos Street, drive one block and turn onto Almaden Boulevard. The Crowne Plaza San Jose will be on the right.
