Memorial Picture "...DAMISCH, LCDR Mark...Loss of a Shipmate - This is a short fused notice regarding the death on Sunday, October 12th, 2003 of Mark Damisch, LCDR, USNR. Mark had been practicing for an upcoming aeorbatic competition planned for next week in Warrenton, VA. No further reports regarding the cause of the crash. Mark's first tour was in a VP squadron from NAS Brunswick, Maine. He then reported to VT-28 as a flight instructor in 1992 where I first met him as the Commanding Officer of VT-28. He was an outstanding IP, first class gentlemen and sharp as a tack especially in software development and IT, which is the line of work he chose to pursue after leaving active duty. He worked for a small company here in the DC area. Mark was not married. Following active duty Mark affiliated with a VP reserve squadron up at NAS Willow Grove, Pennsylvania but I am not sure which squadron. I am asking for any assistance one can provide me concerning getting the word out to some of his old Shipmates from NAS Brunswick, Maine, CCTX or the NAS Willow Grove, Pennsylvania. I am particulary interested in anyone who might know a John Shannon (LT/LCDR not sure) who drilled with Mark up at NAS Willow Grove, Pennsylvania. Please drop me an email if you can help. Missed flying so joined the reserves at NAS Grosse ILE, Michigan flying in S2-E's.When they closed Grosse Ile we all moved to NAF Detroit, Michigan at Seldfridge AFB. Became part of VS-73 when they came out with the "One Navy" concept. I will say that 73 was the best VS squadron in the Navy reserve. When they eliminated the VS we transitioned to the P-3 as VP-93. I was with VP-93 from commissioning in 1976 until I moved to N. Carolina in 1980. I than joined VP-64 and stayed with them until 1984 when the Navy deceieded that I was out of their area and they could no longer fly the airlift to pick me up. He died in June, 2005 of natural causes; albeit at a very young age. Brian would lay some FE knowledge on you, and no matter how far behind the power curve you (I) might have been, he would never make you (me) feel stupid. He posessed no ego whatsoever, and once he put on khaki, he never forgot where he came from. True to that credo, he always tried to pull others up to where he was. My Navy career began in 1968 when I was selected as a member of the Navy's first group of enlisted aviators specializing in ASW systems operations. After graduating in class number one from the Navy's AntiSubmarine Warfare Operators (AW) school, I went on to active service at the NAS Willow Grove, Pennsylvania where my assignment was training of Reserve Naval Aviators. After active duty, I remained in the Naval Reserves flying the sensor positions in P-3's. I was promoted to Chief Petty Officer and held an Enlisted Aviation Air Warfare specialty designation AWC (AW). In 1988 I was promoted to Chief Warrant Officer (AntiSubmarine Warfare) and rose to WO-3 before being commissioned as a Limited Duty Officer (Air Operations). I retired from the Navy Reserves in 2001 after a thirty one year career in AntiSubmarine Warfare. My civilian career started in 1974 when I began work performing analysis of classified ASW acoustic and target data in support of the Naval Air Development Center. I later performed independent verification and validation of new and modified software for P-3 systems. I flew P-3 research and development and test and evaluation flights as a systems specialist, was designated the Technical Test Director for a classified program, and deployed with P-3 Special Projects aircraft and teams to overseas sites flying operational missions as a civilian advisor. Since joining RBC, Incorporated (Vice President and Chief Operating Officer), I have remained focused in airborne ASW systems engineering and engineering management services and programmatic support to every series of P-3 aircraft and the P-8A replacement aircraft. TULL, AECS Carter (CJ) Retired carter.j.tull@boeing.com "...To my VP friends: I went on active duty in September 1965 at NAS Willow Grove, Pennsylvania as a TAR. The setup at the time was that TARs weren't assigned to a squadron so I got to work on several different types of planes. Was a P2 Radar/Julie operator on the side, briefly! VF-931 was activeted and I went to NAS Cecil Field, Jacksonville, Florida with them. After three years, got out and went to college. Five years later went active with HS-74 at NAS South Weymouth, Massachusetts. After three years there, then a year 'break' joined the reserves with VP-64 at NAS Willow Grove, Pennsylvania. Two years later, 1980. Went to work for Boeing in Seattle, partly because there was a P-3 squadron there! Spent 12 years with VP-69 at NAS Whidbey Island, Washington before 'retiring'. See lots of familiar names on here I'll have to write to!..." [08SEP2004]

After leaving fingernail scratch marks starting at Hiway 20 in Whidbey, and stretching 2,846 miles, I found myself at VP-94 (10/1983-11/1987) at NAS New Orleans, Louisiana, VP-66 (12/1987-03/1990) at NAS Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, REServe AntiSubmarine Warfare TRAining CENter (RESASWTRACEN) (03/1990-1994), NAS Whidbey Island, Washington, VP-64 and retired (26 years) in December of 1995.
