Why Did You Start VPNAVY?
The use of the InterNet (and IntraNet) was becoming very prominent at work for data dissemination. I figured it was time to learn more about this medium.
I really enjoyed "surfing" Navy sites and decided I'd try putting up a site dedicated to my old squadron - Patrol Squadron FIVE (VP-5). You know, the greatest squadron in the NAVY! I rounded up my collection of pictures and history and bought a book on HTML.
Right away, I knew I would need a scanner (couldn't figure out how to get one before - now I could justify it as a "learning experience") and upgraded my home PC. I wasn't sure my lovely wife would buy my reason - but, she is very supportive and just gave me one of those looks! I took that as "go for it!" I contacted my InterNet Service Provider (ISP) and started out with 5 megabytes of storage.
I posted everything I had on VP-5 and entered the "HTML Learning Curve." The next thing I knew, I was finding a bunch of stuff about other squadrons. Visitors were suggesting a "Shipmate" page, Guestbook, etc. So, I started expanding my site.
Before I knew it, old VP Shipmates were sending me pictures, history, and more.
I had to get more storage and upgrade my service.
Decided to dedicate VPNAVY to the men and women of the United States Navy flying "ASW" (VP/VPB) Patrol Aircraft (past and present). VPNAVY has attempted to collect every available piece of information via the InterNet. Everything (and anything) relating to U. S. Navy "ASW" Patrol Squadrons is posted (with permission) on pages "dedicated" to each respective squadron. Currently, over 200 squadrons are represented. Thanks to EVERYONEs contributions, VPNAVYs History (and pictures) far exceed those currently found on the InterNet.
The rest is history!

Can Anyone Contribute?
I make every effort to list those of you who have generously contributed history, pictures, and more.
Without everyone's contributions, VPNAVY wouldn't be what it is today.
And special thanks to George Winter pbycat@bellsouth.net who constantly sends me "care packages" full of historical information.

What are you doing now?
I recently retired (January 3rd, 2003) from the U. S. Census Bureau after over 37 years! Anne retired six months earlier and isn't very happy with my decision (smile).
We are expecting our first Grandchild so that will keep us busy!
Well, it happend! Madison Anne Middleton was born April 2nd, 2003 at 10:04 AM. Madison weighed in at 8 lbs 6.3 ozs and was 21 inches long! Needless to say - the Grandparents are going nuts!
